A 60 year old cocoa Farmer in the central region of
Ghana Mr. Buabeng Francis has said that the current cocoa prices offered per
bag by government is very bad and not helping farmers at all. To him, prices of
products and services has gone up and this has definitely affected everything
they buy like agrochemicals and the likes
The
farmer cum shopkeeper and tailor said he plans the time in such a way that he
can take good care of his family. This he does by doubling up as a shop keeper,
tailor and a cocoa farmer.
Asked whether
they still suffer cocoa diseases? He said they face it very much and that if
you don’t take good care of the cocoa
and apply the right number of chemicals the cocoa disesases may end up destroying the entire cocoa farm.
He lamented that since government couldn’t fulfil the yearly promise to spray
the cocoa for them he should pay them their due when they fight to bring the
seeds on board.
He
finally advised the youth especially those in Agona Kwanyako to double up their
work to about two or three jobs because man mas strive to eat everyday.
