TEENAGE PREGNANCY TAKES OVER CENTRAL REGION
Teenage pregnancy is when
a girl between the ages of 9 to 14 years gets pregnant. This act is socially
and medically not accepted because it
comes with lots of maternal challenges since the pelvic and the uterus may not
be developed enough to hold the baby yet the situation has gotten out of hand
in the central especially Ajumako Essiam district despite measures puted in place to curb it.
A visit to the Mankessim health facilities showed an
increase of 65percent with 335 teenagers impregnated last year. Gomoa West District also recorded 762 cases last year.
An interview with the Ajumako
district health information officer Mr. Badagda Martin revealed that teenage
pregnancy increased from 756 in 2012 to 773 in 2013. Out of this early teens
from ages 10 – 13 increased from 6 in 2012 to 10 in 2013. Late teens within the
ages of 14 and 19 also increased from 754 in 2012 to763 in 2013. Atv news reporters
spoke to some teenagers who have been involved in teenage pregnancy to a
certain what got them to such a situation.
